Matthew Burrows Founder and Director of the Artist Support Pledge has been awarded an MBE for services to the Arts
“I’m delighted and humbled to have been appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2020. I’m not really sure how I’m meant to respond to this other than to say thank you, to you all, as your contributions have shaped ASP and made it the success that it is. I see this as a shared triumph. So perhaps we can take a moment to take a toast, to you, the artists, makers and buyers who so generously participated in Artist Support Pledge, for honouring the pledge and its commitment to solidarity for all. Together we have created a movement and a new micro economy.
The greatest honour for me has been serving my community of fellow artists and makers. You have been my motivation and my reward. It’s an achievement I cannot be more proud of. The lasting legacy of ASP isn’t yet known, there will be shifts in perspective, adaptions and new ideas to explore. This unexplored territory is an endeavour so suited to the creative mind. Of course, many minds are better than one and there are a host of supporters who have already helped shape and build the foundations of ASP’s future."
