Of course a writer of huge acclaim. His are quiet books with enormous voice. Not as ’sensational’ as many of his peers, and possibly more powerful as a result. I love them because they float so effortlessly between themes and ideas. I also like the idea that he uses the recent past to see the difference between dream and reality, aspiration and compromise.
