We ask ourselves why we don’t feel the need to picture anything. Why do we resist it? One thing contemporary art often pictures is popular desire. Art wants to expose the mass media’s manipulation of desire -- expose mendacity. But in the process, in our opinion, something is lost. Skills in manipulating the absolute sensuality of colour existed in the art of the past, where now they’re regarded only as ideology. We think it’s a mistake and we reject it. We respect the critique but we want to reinstitute the skills. We think desire in art can exist and not be a lie.
